Geoffrey's Courses

Fàilte! Welcome! As a teacher, I offer my own classes. These days I mostly teach online via zoom or skype. Click on the links below to go to a specific page for one of my classes.

I've created a page of Tips and Resources for Learning Gaelic. Check it out!

If you are not local to the Seattle area, consider scribing to my Goraidh - A Gaelic Language Tutor Patreon page. In addition to blogging about topics related to my courses, I'm revising all my handouts and posting them there. Check it out to learn more about different subscription levels.

Gaelic Language Courses

For private tutoring, I use Ceumannan, a program rich with exercises and an extensive audio program.

For Zero to Gaelic and my classes at Seattle Central College, I have developed my own program over the years:
  • Beginning Scottish Gaelic
    • The Verbs BI and IS
    • The verb BI in the past, present, and future
    • Vocabulary and related structures/topics
  • Intermediate Scottish Gaelic
    • Regular and irregular verbs in the past
    • Regular and irregular verbs in the future
    • Vocabulary and related structures/topics
  • Advanced Scottish Gaelic
    • Regular and irregular verbs in the conditional
    • Vocabulary and related structures/topics

History of Scotland & Ireland

When I started learning Gaelic, I didn't know much about the history of its speakers. So I began studying it alongside the language. This has now become its own series of courses:

These courses are available online via Seattle Central College Continuing Education or via online private tutoring.

Travel Courses

I offer two travel courses:

I like to think these courses highlight the range of sites to see in these countries, many of which don't have multi-millions to spend on advertising.

These courses are available online via Seattle Central College Continuing Education or via online private tutoring.
Land acknowledgement

I acknowledge that we live on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish People, such as the
Duwamish, whose ancestors resided here since time immemorial and whose descendants are with us today, honoring and bringing to life their ancient heritage.
